This integrative course in the sciences uses a multidisciplinary approach to review historical, social, political, and scientific aspects of HIV. The course aims to put HIV into perspective by comparing the scientific reality to popular misconceptions and examining how it compares to other epidemics, such as COVID, past and present. The scientific concepts covered allow students to gain a fact-based understanding of the disease, to hone critical thinking skills, to develop a personal perspective on HIV, and to understand their role in disease prevention.
