MSOT 604 - Assistive Technology
This course examines the role of assistive technology in promoting optimal occupational functioning across the lifespan and introduces the theories and principles of assistive technology intervention. Further focus on the principles of assessment, selection, training and follow-up with clients in the use of assistive technologies to enable and enhance participation in meaningful occupation(s). Students will explore the concepts and principles of universal design, ergonomics, computer access, mobility devices, seating and positioning systems, sensory enhancements, augmentative communication systems, environmental control units, vehicle adaptations, community mobility, recreational equipment, home and work modifications, and the benefits of the approach for all individuals. Students will understand the ethical, legislative, funding, assessment and psychosocial issues and implications.
Prerequisite(s): MSOT 500, MSOT 501, MSOT 502, MSOT 503, MSOT 507, MSOT 508, and MSOT 509.
