COM 200P - Songwriting Workshop I
This course is the first in a sequence of 4 courses designed as group lessons. Students meet with a faculty member having specialized training and experience in popular songwriting. As the first course in the sequence, students will begin to develop ability and skill in the creative processes of songwriting. Topics covered that support the development of songwriting technique include: how to compose songs in a variety of contexts, forms, and styles; creative use of chord progressions, melodic construction, hooks, and harmonic considerations; strategies for crafting effective lyrics and song titles, and collaborative songwriting strategies.
Prerequisite(s): COM 111P, composition major enrolled in the commercial music/songwriting emphasis, or music major with permission of instructor.
