DPT 511 - Physical Therapy Examination and Intervention Skills I
This course presents a foundational approach to various patient evaluation, goal setting, and intervention techniques within the scope of physical therapy practice. Topics covered include patient interviewing, documentation and billing, legal aspects of health care, outcome measures, body mechanics, manual treatment techniques and back safety, therapeutic exercise, neuromuscular reeducation techniques and physical modalities. PT skills taught in this course include systems examination techniques (including palpation), exercise prescription (strengthening, PROM, and stretching), manual treatment techniques, PNF, goniometric and muscle strength assessment, and the prescription of physical modalities for the physical therapy patient. Professionalism, oral and written communication skills, and ethics are considered throughout.
Prerequisite(s): DPT 500 and DPT 501. Corequisite(s): DPT 512.
