HS 460 - Dementia and Aging
HS 460 - Dementia and Aging This course will provide students with information related to Alzheimer's disease and Related Dementias (ADRD). Students will learn about the pathology of the diseases, the health professionals who work with those patients, and the local services available to support them. The class will emphasize strategies in communicating with people with dementia. Students will participate in a service-learning experience with older adults with dementia who live at a local assisted living facility. This class is geared toward Health Science students and students who are completing the Gerontology Minor. Students who complete the course are eligible to earn Dementia Care Specialist certification administered by Crisis Prevention Institute/Dementia Care Specialists. The course instructor is certified by CPI/DCS to teach this course to students at the University of Hartford. Prerequisite(s): HS 350W or permission of instructor.
